Tree of Life

In our Adoptions building, we have a Tree of Life.
The tree is a painting, displayed on the wall in the lobby, across from the free roam cat room.
The branches were bare, but as our shelter has expanded,
so have the leaves started sprouting on our little tree.
You can add leaves to our tree by donating to the shelter. Each donation to the Tree of Life will help the shelter, and you will receive a leaf-shaped plaque on the tree.
We hope to fill our tree with leaves!
To purchase a leaf, donate $100 (bronze), $250 (silver),
or $500 (gold) to the shelter. You have the choice of
putting your business’ name, relative’s name, or,
of course, your pet’s name on your leaf.

Come view our tree and consider helping it blossom!
Financial Donations
Any amount that you can donate will be helpful, whether it's $5 or $5000. We can accept financial donations in the form of checks, cash, Master Card or VISA. Please do not mail cash to us. Checks and money orders should be made payable to
Corinne T. Smith Animal Center and mailed to the address provided at the top of this page. You might also consider a monthly commitment. You can set up your bank to draft a set amount of funds to our account each month. Tax benefits are available if you itemize your deductions on your tax return. Cash that you have donated can be
exempt from federal income tax.
Estate Planning
A bequest may provide a specific dollar gift, a percentage of your estate or specific asset(s) to be donated to the CTSAC.

There are many ways to give a gift of life insurance. Whether you are acquiring a new policy or giving a policy that is no longer necessary or relevant to your needs, the CTSAC can be named as a recipient to receive part or all of the policy proceeds.
Other Gifts
Appreciated securities such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds are a simple method of giving that may allow you take tax deductions.
Gifts of real estate may include undeveloped land, a commercial property, a vacation
home, or a personal residence.
Whether you give a gift or real estate
outright or if you make a gift of the
remaining interest in that property while you are still using the property, such a gift may entitle you to sizeable tax deductions.
The charitable lead trust allows you to make a future transfer of assets to your heirs, while providing regular, fixed amounts of income to the CTSAC for a specified number of years.
Guardian Angels are people, like you, who donate money towards the adoption
fee of an animal in our care. Animals who might not otherwise get a second look (e.g. older pets, black cats and dogs) have a greater chance of adoption with a reduced adoption fee. Some people can only donate $5; others are
able to donate the majority of the adoption fee.
If your pet is not adopted, your donation will help a similar pet.
All animals are fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and given
basic vet care before going home.

We know that when you must give up your pet to the shelter, it can be a heartbreaking thing. We have seen people from every walk of life, from
children to grown men, shed tears as they sign their pet over to us.
We know that you want to do everything you can to get your pet adopted as
soon as possible. To this end, we have started the Guardian Angels program.
Who are the Guardian Angels? They are volunteers, pet owners, pet lovers, and people just like you who want to sponsor a pet to make it more likely to be adopted.
You can become a guardian angel by donating any amount towards the animal
of your choice (or an animal that you are signing over to the shelter)
to reduce the adoption price for that animal.
Please know that while an animal has a guardian angel, his or her chances of adoption are very much increased but are not guaranteed. If your animal is not adopted, your donation will go towards helping another similar pet.
